On Her Wellness Journey

HOW I BECAME A HOLISTIC NUTRITIONIST: 3 years ago (2015) I was suffering from amenorrhea + hormonal acne and had a terrible relationship with food! At the time I was over exercising and obsessed with eating healthy.

I met with a Naturopath who showed me the healing powers of food.  I let go of food rules and focused on intuitive eating.  Managing stress, eating more healthy fats and seed cycling were also apart of the process. Eventually, my period came back, my acne started to disappear and I began to enjoy life again!

When I finished my undergraduate degree, I enrolled at the Institute of Holistic Nutrition.I wanted to help other women, like myself, develop a better relationship with food and balance their hormones so they can feel their absolute best.

BEST TIPS FOR BALANCING HORMONES:

  1. Healthy fats: we need these to build hormones. Lots of avocados, coconut oil, fatty fish, nuts and seeds!

  2. Complex Carbs: this helps to balance your blood sugar. Foods like sweet potato, root veggies, and quinoa.

  3. Reduce Stress: taking care of yourself is so important for hormonal health- chronic stress and high cortisol levels do not support hormonal balance

  4. Get Plenty of Sleep

  5. Exercise: movement is so important for improving insulin sensitivity, reducing cortisol levels and inflammation. It doesn't have to be hitting the gym every day. Exercise can be walking your dog, yoga, or hiking.

BEST TIPS FOR DIGESTIVE HEALING: Focus on how you are eating, not just what you are eating! Don't eat when distracted, this will impact your ability to absorb nutrients. Chew your food and keep liquids to a minimum during meal time. Incorporate lots of gut friendly foods, like sauerkraut, kimchi, kombucha, bone broth, and collagen. These foods are going to help nourish your digestive system, including your microbiome!

Wellness

ALWAYS SIPPING: Lemon water & matcha

ALWAYS SNACKING ON: Seaweed snacks

ON MY NIGHTSTAND: Magnesium - a must for me before bed, natural cycles fertility thermometer (so important for understanding your hormonal health) & my essential oil diffuser

WELLNESS TREND I LOVE: Collagen! I've noticed so many amazing benefits since I started taking it daily. It's AMAZING for your skin, hair, nails and even gut health!

BEST HEALTH ADVICE YOU'VE RECEIVED: "Health doesn't come from what you do all of the time, it comes from what you do most of the time."  I can't remember where I read this, but it is something that has always stuck with me and is something that I always tell my clients.  As much as it's important to nourish our bodies with real whole foods, it's also important to enjoy life. We shouldn't attach guilt to indulging and having fun!
