Turmeric Ginger Latte
Turmeric has been completely covering my social feed lately. Turmeric lattes, face masks, and even tooth paste promise everything from whitening teeth to helping arthritis. So what's the big deal?
Turmeric isn't actually new. It's been used for thousands of years to treat various conditions as well as add an earthy flavor and beautiful orange color to Indian and Nordic cuisine, among others. Turmeric is an extremely powerful antioxidant, can fight bacterial and viral infections, and has even been shownthrough observation of DNA methylation to show differences in a gene that is involved in depression and asthma.
The reason I fell in love with Turmeric is actually for none of these reasons. Turmeric's most useful benefit for me is its inflammation fighting properties. Turmeric, like ginger, is a powerful anti-inflammatory that is natural so doesn't effect the liver and kidney's like advil does. With autoimmune disorders like mine, inflammation runs rampant through the body so eating and drinking anti-inflammatory foods and spices is important. I've been mixing it into my food for awhile from chicken to curry to yogurt, but I wanted to experiment with a drink. I've made "golden milk" before but haven't loved the taste.
I wanted to try a "latte" to have something fun to drink when the rest of the world is drinking coffee and it actually turned out delicious! Here's how I did it! (Pro Tip: Tumeric stains! When making this cover up anything you don't want to get orange and clean the pot out immediately!)
